High performance replacement “double core” intercooler for Land Rover Defender, Discovery or Range Rover 300 Tdi.
This intercooler has been designed to replace the original intercooler and has 80% more surface area than the original.
Ideal for vehicles fitted with close mounted winch bumpers where it is not possible to fit our larger front mounted intercooler.
This model is a great compromise between our uprated replacement model and the larger front mount option and is also suitable for cars with AC.
115mm thick special high performance L.I.F.T (Louvred Internal Fin Technology) controlled atmosphere brazed core, TIG welded by hand in house using Internal turbulators to increase cooling capacity.
Combined with the correct tuning (instructions included) power will increase from 111 bhp standard to approximately 141 bhp with a similar increase in torque. Figures are an average, taken from a our customers own independent rolling road tests.
The greater cooling capacity will allow up to 27% increase in power and torque in the lower and mid-range revs and improved throttle response, customers regularly report 10-15% gain in economy.
Cylinder head thermal stress is actually reduced as the combustion temperature or EGT is reduced dramatically
Please note, you will need to adjust the original intercooler/radiator surround frame to install this intercooler or purchase our replacement frame.
Because the intercooler is far more efficient than the standard item, the fuel pump will need setting to compensate for the change in mixture. The settings are straightforward and are covered in fitting instructions supplied with the kit.
As most Tdi vehicles are not electronically controlled, there is no ECU to remap, so we optimise the fuel and boost settings to match the intercooler mechanically.
Post ’98 auto Discovery is fitted with EDC – Electronic Diesel Control, so will need tuning electronically.
