ASTU04 – Defender 2.2 Tdci tuning unit
Preparation
Before installing your tunit please check you aren’t missing anything listed in the Support Booklet and the part number (starting with NUN) on the tunit matches that on your instructions. If they differ or you have parts missing call the retailer or support line detailed in the Support Booklet.
Check the installation is simple enough for you. If you believe it is not then call 0845 838 1405 for a local installer.
Before the installation, you must ensure that the ignition of your vehicle is turned off and the key is out of the lock. Place the ignition key 10 metres away from the vehicle. If you leave the key in the lock or too close during installation then this can cause an error light to occur on the dash.
Safety Tips
Hot Engine
It is important to make sure your engine is cool enough to work on. Allow enough time for your engine to cool before installation.
Protection
Some of the fluids and greases on motor vehicles can lead to skin conditions. It is advisory to use plastic gloves before touching any part of the engine.
1. Plug location
Remove the plastic cover over the injectors to see the plug.
Locate the original plug on your engine (images 1 & 2) and remove it. If the engine is hot then wait for it to cool to avoid burning.
Connect the original engine plug to the female socket on the harness. Now connect the male plug on the harness to the engine in place of the original. Make sure you have a good connection.

Connect the tunit to the Power Plug on the harness.
Find a place in your engine that is free from water ingress, excessive heat and vibration. Secure the tunit with the cable ties provided with the 15 pin plug pointing downwards. Ensure the tunit is installed in this manner.
Important note: Although the tunit is water resistant it is not water proof and must be installed in accordance with these instructions.
3. Once connected
Start the engine and check the tunit’s green light is on. This shows the tunit is powered up normally.
Take your vessel for a test run and make sure your power is satisfactory. If required adjust the power using the Support Booklet (page 12) adjustment guide. For troubleshooting refer to page 13 in your Support Booklet.
